The classic children's game Colorama is a highly enjoyable introduction to colours and shapes. The game is for children in the 3-8 years age group and can be played by one to six players. It comes complete with all playing parts--a brightly coloured game board, 40 game pieces in four different colours and five different shapes, one colour dice, one shaped dice and a full set of playing instructions. The game is played by arranging the game pieces according to colour and shape and placing them in the appropriate fields on the game board. There are four different versions of the game to suit all the ages in the group, starting with a game for younger children to help them recognise the colours and shapes of the game pieces. The players take turns placing the game pieces on the game board in the field, which matches them in colour and shape (eg: a round yellow piece is placed in a round yellow field on the board). The game is over when all the fields on the board have been covered. There are no winners or losers--so, no tears! The games increase in difficulty and competitiveness for the older children. Game 2 helps the players to get to know the dice; games 3 and 4 are the full Colorama games where there is a winner.
No reading or number skills are required--all the games are played by arranging the pieces according to colour and shape. Colorama is an excellent learning game that practices dexterity and logical thinking--ideal for playschools as well as the home! --Ben King
Note: not suitable for children under 3 years of age because of small pieces.
