Product Description This Water Rocket perfectly demonstrates the principle Isaac Newton's described in his third law of motion. Can fly hundreds of feet in the air! The Science Museum Water Rocket uses water and air to launch and fly hundreds of feet in the air. Professional Water Rocket Video function newwinlinktext1() { newwin = window.open('waterrocketvid.htm','windowname','height=400,width=360,resizable') } 2 MB (requires windows media player) Fill the rocket partly with water and connect the pump to force air into the rocket under pressure. Squeeze the hand-launcher to release the pressure in the rocket and watch it zoom into the air. This demonstrates the principle Isaac Newton's described in his third law of motion: 'Every action has an equal and opposite reaction'. The pressure of the air forces the water out of the base. This action is balanced by a reaction - thrusting the rocket in the opposite direction. As the mass of water is greater than the rockets mass, so the forces are balanced by the rocket accelerating much faster than the water. It can assist with National Curriculum coverage, suitable for exploring science at KS2 and KS3 of the National Curriculum. This Encourages your child to discover more about forces and motion (physical processes) through play experiences. The Science Museum Professional Water Rocket is a great example of how children can learn and have fun. Water Rocket features ? One Professional Water Rocket ? Rocket body ? Great fun but buy a pump to avoid disappointment May 30, 2008 Like the other reviews I agree that this is great fun and educational for the younger minds (and older ones too!!!) but the footpump supplied with the rocket is utter useless - it broke for me on the second depression; Do yourself a favour and buy your own pump to avoid disappointment
Rocket great pump awful February 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The rocket itself is brilliant. But the pump itself is awful, second time out it sprung a leak. Tried to get a replacement from the Science Museum but it proved too much hassle as they wanted me to return the whole thing when only the pump was faulty.
Spent 5 on a cheap footpump from Halfords. That didn't last five minutes either, but then I suppose they are only designed for occasional use not continuous duty. Found the ideal answer on Amazon in a 10 hand operated track pump that enables you to reach 100 psi in only a few strokes. At that pressure the height/distance reached is phenomenal - make sure you have a big empty space.
The WOW factor January 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The rocket itself is brilliant. Put in some water, pump up to pressure and release the trigger....and the rocket lauches to a spectacular height. Great toy for older children and men! The kit comes with everything you need to get going, but the included foot pump was cheap and disappointing: it struggled to get the air pressure above 50 psi and broke within two days. A good quality car footpump can get the pressure up to the max recommended (100 psi) to make best use of the rocket power. First class fun and would have been 5 stars with a better foot pump.
