2 out of 5 stars So basic and so American   November 9, 2007

Yes, this book is good for the basics; saying sorry, please, thank you. But that's it. If you want a good childrens book about manners, this is not it.

It's also very American. If you're happy with the Americanization of the British childhood then you might be more tolerant of this book than I. Is "You're welcome" really necessary after every "Thank you"?

That said my daughter does love it, but if it's Dora then that's a given anyway. I'm rapidly losing the fight against Dora, she is ubiquitous.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book   January 6, 2006

I bought this book for my 17 month old daughter as she likes watching Dora on tv. She absolutely loves it as a result of which she can now say all the characters names and knows when to say please, thank you, hello and even knows when she needs to sneeze she has to put her hand over her mouth. She's played with and requested this book to be read to her so many times that if you stop in the middle of a sentence she says the next word herself! Pages seem a bit thin but are very hard wearing. Highly recommended. Can't go wrong for £2!

4 out of 5 stars Good book; great value   February 28, 2005

This is an excellent book, particularly if your child is already familiar with Dora and Boots.

The story is an explicit morality tale about the importance of saying sorry and being polite. What is particularly good is the way that the book puts the issues in context. Dora and Boots meet the Grumpy Old Troll after he has upset his friend, the mouse and he is now upset. They help him to understand what he must do to rectify the problem and then set off on a journey to the mouse's house. Along the way key words (Sorry, Hello, Thank you, and Please) are introduced in English and Spanish.

Highly recommended

5 out of 5 stars thumbs up from our 4 year old   May 21, 2004

We love this book and have it as a "regular" in our nightime reading pile. But aside from being fun, it helps put feelings into words. The Troll wants to make-up to his friend the mouse for being "grumpy" and "not very nice". At an age where kids are starting to learn to deal with their new friendships I think they really relate to it. Of course I love the reinforcement of saying "Thank You" and "Please". And the English/Spanish messages are great! I'm looking for more books like this.

5 out of 5 stars How can you go wrong   May 7, 2004

I brought this book for my 2-year-old son for his birthday. He is a very big Dora fan.

I do not think that you can go wrong when you buy this book its only a few pounds and what can you get for a child at that price.

It has all the usual Dora phrases and friends. He loves doing the swipers oh mann.

I would recommend this book I now read it every day to my son
