5 out of 5 stars No better mouse.   November 17, 2008
i think you need to try it out first to see how it fits your hand, but if it fits you, then its golden.
this is the best mouse i have ever used, comfortable, precise and full of features rarely found on others.

seriously though, i think you should try it out first as if it doesn't fit your hand then it can be a problem.

only thing i would change is make it less 'pointy' on the top, and have it lay as a flat slope to the right, but i think thats just me.

Fantastic.

Oh MS, why do you tease me! The MSM could have been so good. The precision is good, the buttons feel good when you click them and the colours are great, including the lights. The weight is good too! (empty or not) The scrolling wheel is fantastic!

The bad things.
A)Uncomfortable design. It might not look like it but through the wonders of magic, this mouse is the most uncomfortable mouse I have yet to use. It's not just the size, if you put a Logitech MX1000 (my previous mouse) next to it you will see they are about the same dimensions. Still, this MSM is just horrible. It took me a couple of months to get used to it enough so that it doesn't HURT my hand using it! The buttons are too long, the side buttons/thumb buttons are too far, and the mouse near the back makes you have to position your hand like...weird. I am not kidding when I say this mouse might make you feel physical pain.

B) The thumb buttons are ok, but they are too far near the front/top of the mouse and makes it impossible to use without losing the grip of the mouse. Due to the rest of the design of the mouse you can't actualy manipulate the mouse with just the fingers and the only way to use it "properly" is to "palm" handle it. Which then makes it useless as a gaming mouse due to the size and shape of it.

C) The mouse has 10 buttons. Scratch that, I mean 5...Left and right click, middle button and the two thumb buttons. You see the other 5 are the "macro" button, the "click to load the ms mouse program button/vista game folder" and three different buttons to...choose one of the presets for sensitivity (need to be set with the software).
They can't be changed with the software and apart from the first couple of days, never tried them again, useless.

D) The software/drivers are at least horrible. While they work fine to set the mouse and choose semi custom dpi options and profiles, plus macros it has a huge issue. The same issue that has been with several different versions of it for other MS mice going back several years. If it is left on then it can (and in my case does, all the time) interfere with the normal usage of the mouse, it will click by itself!, it will even move the pointer by itself! Completely useless.
What I did was after choosing the settings for each of the 3 dpi settings buttons, remove the program/stop it from loading. IF you do use and have problems, make sure you don't just close the program but that you KILL the process in the background!

I wanted to like this mouse a lot, it was cheaper and even more beautiful (IMO) than other mice at the time. Plus MS generaly releases great gaming hardware.
Not this time.

I am going to buy a new mouse next month, after all these months I am used to the mouse a bit, but it still is a horrible mouse for the reasons mentioned above and simply I can't be bothered with it anymore.

I put 3 stars. You can add a star if you are the only person that has no problem using the mouse for more than an hour and if you don't even use the software for it. (you don't have to use it).
You can remove a star if you are planning to use this mouse as a gaming mouse.

Great mouse for FPS, might be a little large if you have hands of the smaller variety but for the rest of us this is the mouse to have. DPI adjust is very handy during gaming

This is a very good mouse, the build quality is Fantastic, the scroll whell is the best i have ever used, and the sidebuttons are very nice.
The only drawback with this mouse is its size.
It is very large and is a funny shape. You get used to it quickly, however I have found a Razer Deathadder suits me better.
If you have large hands and are looking for a quality mouse, this is very very nice.
