Grufalo Lover July 27, 2007 I bought this book in hard page format so that my year-old twins could hear the story and see the pictures without being able to rip it up within seconds!!! Mommy loves reading this book - it's just fantastic. I buy it as a gift for all my friends with children. Never too young to start hearing Julia Donaldson's stories. I have many others from the same author, but Grufalo is my favourite. Just waiting for Grufalo's Child in hard page format now!!!!
My 3 year old adores this book! February 9, 2006 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
This is a great book and my son loves the illustrations and the funny story line. He is only 3 (shy two months) and he already understands the parallel themes in this book...thinking your way out, seeing through deceptive individuals, etc. My son´s father is Portuguese and although I am an English speaker, his first language is Portuguese. As soon as he started reciting the rhymes in this book, his English took off! This is a great book for kids learning to read as well. The illustrations are beautiful and well done and the book is laid out in an interesting and clever format. We now have 4 more of the Donaldson and Scheffler collaborations. A MUST HAVE FOR ALL KIDS AND PARENTS WHO HAVE TO READ BOOKS OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
If you have to buy one book make it this one :-) May 17, 2005 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is the best and most enjoyable book my son (Aged 2.5) has, he LOVES it. On a recent family day out to a local forest park, while driving into the forest a wee voice in the back said "The Deep Dark Wood" which is where the Gruffalo lives. So on our walk to went looking of the Gruffalo. Please buy this book it is brilliant.
Modern classic (nice toy too) January 25, 2005 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
Quite simply the best modern children's book.A fantastic story about the adventures of a mouse in the deep dark wood. There is a terrific rhythm to the prose (poetry) (it is a joy to read aloud) together with very good use of repetition (A gruffalo, what's a gruffalo?). As usual Axel Scheffler's illustrations are excellent; complementing the story wonderfully. The toy is very good - it has all the features referenced in the book - its eyes are orange, its tongue is black, it really does have purple prickles all over its back! - and my son (3) loves pointing out the features on the toy as we read the book. Absolutely brilliant - unreservedly recommended
Outstanding September 6, 2004 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
We have many childrens books but this is by far the best read. The kids love it, both 4yrs and 6yrs. Whats also good is the adults enjoy the read and do not fall asleep themselves like with other books. If you goto to Legoland in Windosor they get to see a Gruffalo in the Fairy Tale boat ride(well looks just like one anyway). Recommended to all to read.
