my mate had one of these rocket toys and we had endless hours of fun with it until we lost it over a house this is why i am going to buy another all i have to say is use it in an open field and it will blow your mind me and my mates used to experiment with different amounts of water but what shocked me the most was when i put a little shampoo in the mixture wow did it go high but thats was when we lost it but it was funny
Overpriced and way too fragile May 27, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This kit basically consists of a length of plastic tube fitted with a metal nozzle at one end and a screw fixture for a bicycle pump at the other, a cap for a water bottle fitted with three plastic fins and a rubber grommet, and a short metal skewer with a ring on the end, intended to stabilize the rocket on the ground. Despite the ambiguous description it does not include a pump. The fins, and the plastic cap they fit to, are fragile, typically breaking after three or four uses; the fins also have fairly sharp edges (especially when broken) and are a potential safety hazard. There is no way to control the release of the rocket - it simply fires off when pressure forces the nozzle out of the grommet, and the amount of pressure needed is very variable. The support offered by the fins and the metal stake is unreliable - I've had a rocket topple several times. There are no spares - if the rocket is lost or ends up in a tree the whole kit is useless.
For a little more you can get several models which offer far more control of the release, and seem to have been built with more attention to reusability and safety. As it is I can't honestly recommend this as a toy, while its value for educational purposes is limited since it is very difficult to get reliably repeatable results.
