Very disappointing July 22, 2010

My son got this for his 5th birthday. We kept it aside for a quiet day and were all very excited to get it out and create the figures. Well it is all very disappointing. The boat would not inflate, a foot broke off a man instantly and my son was not at all rough with it. Nothing stays together and it is all very frustrating for him, especially when he has Lego and Playmobil, which have loads of play value and do actually stay together.
Very disappointing and not what you associate with Meccano at all! Buy a few Lego Police sets instead!

Having bought my grandson a Meccano kit from the Snetterton Park Model shop (one of the best in the country for price and choice) I bought this as an add on. Does not seem to have the same quality as the shop bought one, and the little inflatable boat had a hole in so would not inflate. Was very disappointed and will stick to the shop from now on.

I got this half price in a sale and had kept it for a rainy day to amuse the kids. I can't begin to tell you how disappointing this it is. It is very poor quality, the little figures which are enclosed fall to bits very easily and the parts of the vehicles you can build are made of brittle cheap plastic and do not fit together securely. Bits constantly fall off. At the full price you would actually be better to opt for a Lego set due to Lego's enduring quality and staying together power. I am surprised that a company with the reputation of Meccano would lend thair name to this set. Avoid like the plague.

We were given this as a christmas gift for my four year old, we have only just got this out and it is such a dissappointment. None of the parts stay together for any length of time, even the feet on the little men are constantly falling off and won't go back on. My husband who has been constantly fixing them could not believe what this item retailed at when i told him what it was priced at in johnlewis and it really is only worthy of something from the pound shop!
