| Customer Reviews: Good February 4, 2009 Mrs. C. Palmer (West Midlands, UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this for my husband for Christmas - he built it in no time at all although he is quite handy so not sure if that was an advantage. I would not really class it as a toy as such - more of a display item. He has stained it and it does look really nice as a show piece.
Archaic fun! February 1, 2009 Peter Mckenzie 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this toy for my great nephew. He's a little off the rails at times and I thought something like this may focus his, at times, destructive energies. It would require patience and skill to achieve the ultimate goal of medieval destruction and so I thought if his spirit refused to be contained then at least teach him something about physics while he's breaking windows.
A good design let down September 7, 2008 C. Goodall (UK) 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
I bought this model with the idea of helping my nephew build it and I have to say I have ended up with mixed feelings.
The Good
The wooden pieces are nicely finished, no splinters; the instruction booklet details all the pieces, so you can quickly tell if anything is missing; the glue included is of good quality and there's plenty of it and it also includes plans to lay out the initial pieces to ensure they are arranged correctly.
The Bad.
Although the design itself is good the actual construction concept is poor. Everything has to be glued together. Not only do you have to wait ages for the glue to dry thoroughly but gluing wood flat to flat is never going to be strong. Why not drill a few more holes and use dowel pegs? Much better, much stronger & quicker.
Also some of the instructions aren't clear. This is not something you could hand to an 8 year old and expect them to construct unaided.
I did like the model we produced in the end but we did have to think up ways to strengthen the glued joints. Which is a shame as this problem could so easily be fixed by the manufacturer.
