Brilliant August 4, 2010 Mrs. A. Tipping I built this a good few years ago when I was around 11 years old and I did`nt have and problems with it at all. It was fairly easy to build following the instructions and it teaches you a lot, also it makes you very proud after finishing such a project and seing it work right infront of them. It showed me how the 4 cilinder engine works and the little bits behind all the mechanisms. I reccomend this to anyone taking an interest in Engineering.
Superb for school project July 16, 2010 S. Stillman (oxfordshire) Purchased for my son to use in a school project (he is 12) and we left him to get on with it. Took a few evenings and he lost his patience sometimes but when it was there working in front of him he felt he'd achieved something. Also he then was able to give an overview in his own words on the working of an engine.
One for the children who prefer to learn with their hands not their eyes July 1, 2010 M. Bhangal (Somewhere in Northern England) There was a time when we thought kids learned the same. Give them a book and they will learn from it.
Not true.
Children (and adults) have different learning styles. Some kids just cannot learn with their eyes. They learn with their hands. The technical term is Kinesthetic learning or tactile learning. These kids will not learn from a book or an interactive website. They are not stupid. They just have to actually do it themselves in the real world.
So if you have a child that just doesnt seem to sit right with books, but who is bored watching tv, and would rather go out and play (but you would rather they learned something) maybe they need something more tactile like this.
The engine kit is a little hard in places, so your child may need some help at times, but this is something that will totally suit a kinesthetic child. Just be prepared for them to want to take it apart again once they have finished it! Oh, and its a LOT bigger than the picture suggests!
Disclaimers and background:
I am not a teacher. I worked as an e-learning company in a previous job, hence my knowledge of learning.
Great, a must buy! June 29, 2010 Mr. Gavin Hewitt It was a great model to make. Came like airkix and dont need to paint. Lights up and everything!
Great fun for all! June 29, 2010 S. Barnes (UK) I bought this for my 8 year old nephew - it has gone down very well with both him and my Dad. A bit intricate for an 8 year old, but it does state for 10 years plus on the box. However, with a bit of guidance there are few problems. Great learning tool for a car fanatic.
