Useless September 6, 2010 Donbo This gadget is very difficult to use. The illumination is poor (1 LED), the whole thing is unsteady, and the small field of view makes it well nigh impossible to locate a point of interest. I was very disappointed. I'm an adult: what a child would make of it doesn't bear thinking about. I'm now going back to what I was using previously - a 3xLED hand held loupe from Hong Kong which cost me £2.50 on e-bay. It's vastly superior.
Excellent September 4, 2010 JamesJohnson These little microscopes are excellent. Light and small, durable, with a good quality image - better than I expected. Great for the backpack for days out and trips camping. Excellent value.
NHM Pocket Microscope August 30, 2010 Gareth Williams Let's start at the begining, I didn't buy this as a toy. I needed something with more magnification than my loop for some grass id work. As the cheapest field microscope with 40x mag. would cost about £70 and given the good reviews this product already had, I decided to take a punt with this and leave off the field microscope unless needed. I have to say this did the job very well. It's not perfect and has its limitations, it can be a bit fiddly and is plastic but it's light, small and only £7 not £70. More importantly, the results were very good and perfectly adequate for my needs. Don't be put off by the price, give this a go and only spend more if you decide it is warranted. It may be marketed as a toy but don't be fooled into thinking it is one and if you decide it's not good enough for your needs, what have you lost?
Great product August 25, 2010 Raven (Scotland) I bought this for my nephew's birthday based on the reviews so far. I was there when he opened it and got it up and running for him - a very simple process. I then sprinkled some sugar onto the viewing glass, turned the microscope light on and looked at the amazing, massive sugar crystals that were beautiful shapes, sharp, and vibrant. Instant success and I had several comments of "where did you get it" and "I want one for a present for someone" etc.
great little present August 19, 2010 d page A beautiful little introductory microscope. I bought this for my 9 year-old grandson who was delighted. The simplicity of use and the magnification are perfect for 5 - 15 years old. We discovered that thunder-flies are not just little black specks that make you itch. They have legs and jaws! and pond water is full of things that move and spin; and different fabrics have different structures.
I have since bought another one for my neighbours children. At less than £8 it is excellent value.
