Does what it's meant to September 28, 2006 34 out of 34 found this review helpful
This is a simple, cheap and easy-to-use radio. It doesn't have any flashy features, but that clearly isn't the aim of this model anyway.
The styling is nice; it follows the classic handheld shape/layout, but the book-like curves give it a slightly more up-to-date feel. Oddly, it's slightly wedge shaped- one side is quite thick- but it fits well in your hand.
The FM reception seems to be pretty good most of the time. I can't really judge AM (MW) because I don't use that as much, and the PC or TV normally interferes with reception; but it seems okay (as far as MW goes, anyway).
You wouldn't expect something this size to give really loud hi-fi sound, and it doesn't. Given those limitations, speech is fine, and music is listenable, although hardly outstanding. Want better/louder sound? Get a bigger radio.
Headphone output only goes to one ear with normal stereo headphones. I don't blame them for omitting FM Stereo from a cheap one-speaker radio, but mono output in both ears would be nice!
This thing seems to go *forever* on two alkaline AA batteries, which is another of its strengths. Build quality also seems to be fine.
This is a simple, unpretentious radio that does its job at a decent price.
Good radio October 22, 2005 30 out of 30 found this review helpful
This is a high quality product from Sony which, as you might expect, is sturdily built and extremely durable. It's quite bulky for a personal radio, and on removing the packaging you might be surprised by how thick it is. Also, it only sends sound to the one side of the headphones, so it's not ideal for listening to music. Otherwise it's fine and cheap at the price.
