Amazon.co.uk Review The Mighty Red Action Locomotive is a battery-powered engine full of great features. This plastic engine is bigger than most BRIO trains at approximately 13 cm long and has eight wheels for super power. A switch on the top allows the engine to be used in both free wheel and battery-powered play. There are three buttons on the top, the first activates reverse motion, bell, reverse sound and rear flashing light, the second stops everything and the third activates forward motion, headlights and authentic steam engine sound. It has magnetic coupling for pulling trucks and coaches and rubber grips on the wheels for extra pulling strength. Recommended for aged three and up. Requires two AAA, 1.5v Batteries (Not Included) --Victoria Mackenzie

Well if the battery cover worked it would be great April 1, 2008 Both of our sons love their Brio trains and track and so we thought we would buy a second battery train so the youngest could enjoy one. The other train (BRIO 33761 Wooden Railway System: Smart Track Engine) worked very well, was well designed and durable. This train, however, has a flaw - the battery cover on the first train had a locating pin to stop the cover sliding forward and make it secure when it was screwed down into place. This one does not and as a result my wife cannot fit it at all and I have spent half an hour getting it to work. I take this type of equipment apart and put it back together again for a living and I can't do with this model what comes naturally with the earlier one! Bad show Brio!
Could be better November 29, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Great features with the realistic sound and forward and back battery operation but very disappointing that it cant even make it over it's own manufacturer's bridges even with nothing attached! Shame as it should be better performing for the price. It is still a hit with the children but 'Thomas the Tank Engine' battery train out performs it.
A nice addition! December 30, 2002 10 out of 13 found this review helpful
When we first got this through the post, we thought that it was a pretty small package for 15. However, it has become the centerpiece of our existing BRIO set! The lights and sounds keep our 2-year-old enthralled and he loves pushing the buttons to make it go. Coupled with the stop-and-start track we already have, it makes for a busy time for our toddler. The free-play switch is great as it allows the engine to be pushed around without worry about damage to the electric motor.
Definitely mighty... September 23, 2002 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
Much better than the other battery-operated engine (that came with our first starter set). That had a fiddly switch at the top whereas this has simple big buttons for forward, reverse and stop (much better for our two year old!). It even has a switch to change into push-along mode and has little trouble coping with slopes and longer trains (unlike UK rail companies my daughter likes nothing better than to load on the carriages!). Be aware you'll need two (AAA) batteries but this just makes it stronger and last longer.

The BRIO Wooden Railway System - Mighty Red Action Loco is the third toy in this series and after the second purchace there was no complanting when my little boy asked for it I wen't staight and got it, only to find that this was an even better purcase than the other one. The amount of time that my son spent on it was astronomical. I highly recommed this product to any child between the ages 5-9
