COULD BE A LOT BETTER! December 30, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
WE HAVE AN OLD TOMY WALKABOUT DIGITAL THAT HAS JUST STARTED TO PLAY UP, WELL IT HAS BEEN IN CONSTANT USE FOR 5 YEARS, AND IT NEEDS A SQUEEZE TO CORRECT IT, WELL NOW WE HAVE OUR 3RD BABY WE DECIDED TO PURCHASE WHAT WE THOUGHT WOULD BE A MORE ADVANCED MODEL - NOT THE CASE. THE CONCEPT OF THE TALK BACK FACILITY WAS GREAT BUT THE CONSTANT INTERFERENCE ON IT WAS UNBEARABLE, WE CHANGED THE SETTINGS ON IT SO WE DIDNT HAVE IT ON SUCH A SENSITIVE SETTING BUT THEN THE TALKBACK FACILITY DIDNT PICK UP CLEARLY WHAT WAS BEING SAID. WE NEEDED IT ON SENSITIVE AS WE HAVE A 2 1/2 YEAR OLD WHO FALLS OUT OF BED AND OBVIOUSLY NEEDED TO HEAR THE BUMP! SO IN THE END WE'VE PLUGGED BACK IN THE OLD BOY AND JUST GIVE IT A SQUEEZE NOW AND AGAIN WHEN IT PLAYS UP, I'M VERY DISSAPOINTED WITH TOMY NOT PRODUCING A MORE ADVANCED MODEL. I HAVE NOW RETURNED THE NEW ONE, BUT WILL LOOK FOR A BETTER ONE AND READ REVIEWS ON IT BEFORE HAND!
Initially excellent but...... December 28, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
We have had this monitor for about 2 years now and for the first 6 months it was excellent, then suddenly we started experiencing random loud feedback and screeching sounds from the parent unit. Interestingly enough these only happen when it is out of it's cradle and not charging??? About a year ago the talk back button broke so we can't talk to my daughter and this last week there seems to be a problem with the charger. This may all sound negative but on a whole we have been fairly happy with the monitor (once we figured out that replacing it on the charger stopped the feedback). If asked would I buy it again?? The answer is considering the price I'd probably pay a little more and go for a digital one in preference but if it was on sale I probably would buy a new one.
Does the job December 21, 2007 We have had this monitor for about 4 months now. I must admit that we only use it once or twice a week when we are over at friends or grandparents. The belt clip works fine on my unit and I havent had any problems with interference either at my parent's (who live in the country) or at my in-law's who live in a semi-detached house. I dont really like the colour of the night light (its blue) and I think its a bit expensive but other than that it does pretty much what it says on the box! If you could get one second had it would be great value.
Very happy with this monitor November 20, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have to say I bought this monitor last week and have been very satisfied with it. I haven't experienced any of the problems the other reviewers mention: I don't know if the design has slightly changed since the previous reviews were written, but the belt clip on mine works fine and the unit stays on my belt, also the parent unit has a flat bit at the bottom so it stands up when it is out of the charging cradle and you can see the display and temp. without having to pick it up. In terms of functionality it does the job it's meant to do - monitors the noise and temperature in the baby's room, and it does it well. I haven't had any problems with poor sound or interference, and we live in a three storey house - can move around the whole house and it doesn't get out of range at all. The interference problems must simply be down to environmental interference based on where you live. I guess the only solution to this is to get the platinum - which is digital, not analogue - or move house!
Interference in built-up areas November 18, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We've had one of these for a year and I've got no issue with the design. The only problem is that in our small terraced house in London we frequently lose the signal and/or get the horrible screeching interference sound, prompted by nothing at all. I suspect we'll probably replace it soon.
