Amusing But Lacking Lasting Value January 17, 2008 This is a very amusing toy for adults or children alike. I was very surprised with the accuracy of it's answering skills, and this made it quite a challenge for us to pick something it would not guess. It was passed back and forth for a bit and then we got bored of it. It got left on the table whilst we found alternate activities to pursue.
It does, however, have some very good points to it. For a start it would be great as a 'new toy' brought out just in time for long journey. It would keep the children amused for a good while and give the adults some peace from the inevitable whining!
Another good feature is that it is very compact and lightweight, fairly durable also judging by the number of times it got dropped by us and still worked.
The downside is the lack of stimulation over a prolonged period of time, and the fact that some of the questions can seem obscure to answer, dependent on the category you had chosen.
Overall, I have to say that is a fun game which is reasonably priced for what it is. This means that even if your kids tire of it fairly swiftly it is not too great a worry.
Great for journeys and family get-togethers January 17, 2008 20Q is a little electronic gadget which plays the 'animal, vegetable or mineral' game with you. It's more clever than you might expect, as it allows you to answer 'sometimes' or 'unknown', if you can't give a yes or no answer to its questions, and STILL manages to guess what you're thinking about almost all the time. OK, it struggles with obscure animals and some unexpected objects, but generally gets close enough. Its questions are sometimes bizarre (does it bring joy to people?) and sometimes difficult to answer, so it's just as well you can avoid a yes/no answer!
There is something compulsive about this little toy - the challenge to think of something it won't guess becomes irresistible - but it's not something you'll play with on your own for long. I'd recommend it for children over about 8 (as they need enough knowledge to answer the questions, and they'll still pester you to ask if their object is heavier than a pound of butter). It's ideal for passing around at family get-togethers, children's sleepovers, on journeys etc.
Not the usual piece of Plastic Tat! (and no beeping!) January 17, 2008 One of the most unusual and enjoyable toys I have seen and played with for many years. The ball uses a process of logic and elimination to arrive.. so far with 100% accuracy at the very thing you have thought of which is of course the idea of the game, and when you have answered the questions asked by the ball with a simple yes or no, such as ''is it man made, made of metal, or green'', somehow it guesses the very thing; It's memory, vocabluary and breadth of choice is astounding, and it is a very neat piece of programming in itself. Children will love it, and it is sure to be a hit in the playground. Who knows, maybe it will be the start of the next 'Mystic Meg', or some such figure. The ball is made of hard durable plastic too, with a small LCD screen, which is unlikely, IMHO to break. And, I can confirm it passed the drop tests with flying colours too. Definately a must have, to keep the kids quiet in the car, or visiting granny etc. And, most importantly, it has a quiet mode, so doesnt make any noises!

I haven't received this item yet... apparently Royal Mail tried to deliver it on Dec 22 and it is now on its way back to you - I never got a card through the door :o(
Fun for a while January 17, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is fun when you first discover it and is more educational than a number of toys that claim to be. However it is tiresome quite quickly.
