Great little tripod, Im using with an Sigma 18-200mm IS lens (which agreed is not the biggest) but Ive never had any qualms that it could not support the weight.
Wraps round pretty much anything and as its so small and light its not a problem to slip in a bag etc so your more likely to have it with you when you really need it. Would thoroughly recommend.

5 out of 5 stars My favourite camera-related item!   September 18, 2008

This gadget is amazing! By far my favourite item in my camera is this funky tripod. It works too - I've had it on styals & fences in fields, on my dining room table top & on the banister of my stairs. Its surprisingly sturdy for something so bendy!! The only thing I couldn't work out was the screw on the top to attach other tripod heads - I wanted to attach it directly to my camera (which I guess is a 3/8") but it was too big - turned out there is a 1/4" screw cover on the top of it - am so blonde.

Got this (17 quid , Asda ) to use with my Panasonic tz5 . The tz5's a bit bigger than 'compact' cameras and I read in reviews of problems with fingers covering the mike when in video mode .This things great , you can use it like a tripod etc but I used it as an extra handle when videoing and it kept my mits well away from the mike. I've only had it 2 weeks and i've had about 6 people asking what it was and where I got it so they could get one .

5 out of 5 stars Use that self-timer!   September 1, 2008
This is the Gorillapod for a compact camera.
Although most compact cameras have a tripod socket this is invariably at one end of the body and they feel unstable with some of the small tripods sold for use with a compact camera. This isn't a problem for the Gorillapod as you can bend the legs to make the camera nice and stable. The Gorillapod is more than an ordinary tripod though, I've wrapped it around the banisters in a restaurant to take a group photo and wrapped it around a fence post for outdoor shots. Handy for night shots too where the longer exposure time means jitter is a problem.
You do need a coin to screw the removable adapter plate to the camera and you need to know how to switch the self-timer on. It's small and light, I carry mine in a jacket pocket.

5 out of 5 stars This should be in every serious photographer's camera bag   August 8, 2008

What a wonder this little thing is! Its so easy to use, so versatile and I have found so many uses for it.

Don't believe what others have said about it being too light and flimsy. They could be talking about this one's little siblings, but the SLR Zoom Gorillapod can easily support the weight of my Nikon D80 with 18 - 135mm zoom leans attched.

It also supports the weight of my Canon HG10 camcorder with an optional Canon wide angle lens attached to it, a lens that is very, very heavy. I haven't wrapped it around a pole with the Canon attached yet, only used it as a tripod on the ground, as it may fall off the pole with the weight of the Canon lens, but it has no problem supporting the weight of the Nikon D80 while wrapped around a pole.

I also use it as a grip with the Canon HG10, placing one leg against my chest and holding another leg with my left hand. I have found this produces much steadier shots than just holding the camcorder by itself.

I'm sure to find many more uses for this great little gizmo. Its also so light that it adds no real weight to my carry on luggage for budget flights that have a 10 kg weight limit. (If you know who I mean!)
