Could have been so much better April 12, 2008 Build quality of this toy is mixed, the helter skelter part is excellant, interlocking track held secure on a frame and most importantly is easy for the adult to build! The rest of track is however the poor quality new style track that has enough trouble staying together on the flat never mind when its build as a poorly supported slope. The solution to the track breaking every minute is very simple, a tube of epoxy resin. (Hint - glue the top right hand corner to the two pieces of track attached to it for almost trouble free play). While it does make dismantling the track a bit more difficult it does mean you can relax and let your children enjoy playing with the toy without it breaking everytime they run a train across it.
After intervention with epoxy resin my children 3 and 4 year old boys loved this toy, before they gave up on it after about 30 minutes as they got frustrated with it falling to bits.
Educationally I suppose it teaches a little bit about gravity and potential energy conversion into kinetic energy but if you want to try and explain that to a three year old then you are welcome to the blank stares. Will also teach them about magnet strength as well as Thomas can only pull two coaches/trucks up the hill before the weight overcomes the magnet strength.
Fun but a nuisance! January 23, 2008 My little boy is nearly 3 and he received this for christmas, which he loves and has hours of fun with. However its not so fun for whoever is putting it back together all the time, the steep hill is easily knocked down! From my opinion it could of been made better but from my little boys point he squeals with delight when the trains rush down the spiral and has so much fun with it.I just need to teach him to put it back together himself now!!
Very Disappointing January 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My son loves Thomas and when we saw this we thought he would love it which he did initially. However once it was built the frequency of it falling apart made him totally lose interest in it and we feel for the price it has been a big waste of money. He is three years old and quite careful with his toys but the raised parts of the track just fall apart so easily he finds it extremely frustrating. Very Disappointed
Disappointing January 15, 2008 We bought this toy for our 2 year old son who loves Thomas the Tank, however he lost interest in it very quickly. This was mainly to do with the train constantly flying off the track, and the track coming apart. The toy is very, very flimsy for the price, and a toddler soon loses interest they keep having to stop play whilst it is put back together.
Lots of Fun December 28, 2007 We decided to buy this particular toy for our son for Christmas. He will be 2 in February, and even though recommeded age is 3+, he loves it. He worked out how to get the train to shoot down the spiral before we had worked it out. There is the draw back of the hill collapsing whenever he bumps it, but I think we may just glue these bits together.
